Partnership with Shackan Nursery

At the same time, we are expanding local food production.

Alongside this growth, we are creating opportunities for employment and training.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

Merritt Food Bank

Growing Food. Strengthening Food Security.

POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE

LOCALLY GROWN IN SHACKAN

Shackan Nursery donates fresh, locally grown produce directly to the Merritt Food Bank strengthening food security in the Nicola Valley.

Grown here. Shared close to home.

Mines and infrastructure projects require responsible reclamation. At the same time, communities need stronger local food systems. First Nations are also creating businesses and economic opportunities. Meanwhile, young people need pathways into meaningful careers. To support these goals, industry needs stronger, results-driven relationships with Indigenous communities.

  • A seedling becomes part of a restored forest
  • A restoration contract creates employment and training
  • New technology becomes a community-held skill
  • A greenhouse strengthens a regional food system
  • A commercial relationship becomes a long-term partnership between organizations

NuLeaf Farms

Building the Systems Behind the Nursery

NuLeaf Farms works with Shackan Nursery to design, install and build its technical growing systems. Initially, the relationship focused on greenhouse automation. Since then, it has grown into a broader technical partnership.

Today, NuLeaf supports automation, growing system design and technical infrastructure. However, the objective goes beyond installing equipment. It also includes transferring knowledge and building local skills.

Over time, Shackan aims to understand, operate and eventually replicate these systems. In this way, the partnership supports greater independence from outside contractors.

The systems being developed today are designed to be understood, operated, and eventually replicated by Shackan. Not dependent on outside contractors.

Build With Shackan

We are building more than a nursery.

We are building skills, markets, employment and infrastructure rooted in Shackan land and leadership.

The right partners do more than place their logo on a project. They show up, follow through, and share in what gets built.
