Wild Strawberry

Scientific Name: Fragaria virginiana

Carpet your ground with Wild Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana), a charming edible native groundcover found throughout British Columbia. Its small, intensely sweet berries pack far more flavour than their size suggests.

Wild Strawberry is well adapted to the varied soils of Interior BC and spreads readily by runners. Its white flowers, bright red berries, and low trailing habit make it an excellent choice for pollinator gardens, edible groundcover, and naturalized plantings.

Growing naturally in meadows, clearings, and open forests, this spreading groundcover knits soil together, feeds pollinators, and offers a sweet seasonal harvest for people and wildlife.
